Short answer: Al Haramain Detour Noir is the Layton alternative a published roundup lists first, but the same roundup says it lacks Layton’s bright opening and runs warmer and darker. Armaf The Lion’s Club Rugir is Layton-style with a flatter first spray, and Orientica Royal Bleu is a brighter, vanilla-led option that we can link only as a 7.5 ml mini. None is the original, and none can be called identical.

This page is desk research. It draws on Amazon listings checked on October 20, 2026 and a published roundup. We have not smelled, worn or blind-compared any of these. The roundup comes from Scento, which sells Layton decants, so its ranking is opinion with a commercial interest. It contradicts itself in places (on Layton’s longevity, on Layton Exclusif and on prices), and it gives note lists for almost none of its alternatives, so we show shared notes only where a listing or source gives them.

Quick comparison

Scento lists Layton with green apple and lavender on top, a geranium heart and a vanilla base. Its FAQ gives apple, bergamot and lavender over jasmine and violet, with vanilla, pepper and guaiac wood at the base.

Alternative What the source says Notes on record Check first
Al Haramain Detour Noir, 3.33 oz Warmer and darker than Layton; the clearest difference is the top, which lacks the bright opening Amber and oud are named; no full list Listed first, but the roundup says the opening differs most
Armaf The Lion’s Club Rugir, 3.4 oz Layton-style, but does not quite bring over the apple-lavender opening; the first spray is a bit flatter No list in the roundup Limited stock when we checked
Orientica Royal Bleu, 7.5 ml mini A fresh-sweet profile with a vanilla-led dry-down; described as a more premium Arabian-style option The Amazon listing says vanilla, cardamom and apple; vanilla and apple also appear in Layton’s list This is a mini, not a full bottle

The alternatives

Al Haramain Detour Noir: the roundup’s first pick

Scento describes Detour Noir as taking Layton in a warmer, darker direction, with amber and oud, and says the clearest difference is at the top because it lacks Layton’s bright opening. It also says longevity is strong, especially on clothing, and gives seven to nine hours with hard projection, none of which it sources. The Amazon listing is the 3.33 oz unisex Eau de Parfum from a third-party seller. Al Haramain does not describe it as a Layton alternative.

  • Choose it if you want the roundup’s top-listed option and prefer a darker, warmer character over a bright start.
  • Skip it if the green apple and lavender opening is what you like about Layton.

Armaf The Lion’s Club Rugir: Layton-style, flatter start

Scento says Rugir is Layton-style but does not quite bring over the apple-lavender opening, and that the first spray feels a bit flatter. It calls it another strong, well-projecting option without a source. The listing is the 3.4 oz Eau de Parfum for men, sold by a third party with limited stock when we checked. Armaf does not describe it as a Layton alternative, and the roundup gives no note list for it.

  • Choose it if you want a Layton-style scent and can accept a less lively first spray.
  • Skip it if the opening is what you are paying for.

Orientica Royal Bleu: a mini to try first

Scento places Royal Bleu in the brighter, smoother Layton lane and calls it a more premium Arabian-style option, with a fresh-sweet profile and a vanilla-led dry-down. It gives no note list. The Amazon 7.5 ml mini listing is titled with vanilla, cardamom and apple, which overlaps Layton on vanilla and apple. We did not find a full-size Royal Bleu bottle we could verify as new and in stock.

  • Choose it if you want to test the brighter vanilla direction cheaply before buying a bigger bottle elsewhere.
  • Skip it if you want a full bottle on Amazon today; this link is the mini only.

Scento also lists Maison Alhambra Leyden, which it puts at about 80 to 85 percent similarity without a source, Al Haramain Amber Oud Exclusif Bleu, French Avenue Miraj Absolu, The Woods Collection Dusk and Epoque Artistique. We did not find new, in-stock Amazon listings that clearly match those names, so none is linked. The roundup also lists divain.695, which the maker’s site describes as inspired by Layton with apple, lavender, mandarin and bergamot on top, geranium, violet and jasmine in the heart, and vanilla, cardamom, sandalwood, pepper, patchouli and guaiac wood at the base. It is sold by the maker, not on Amazon.

The original, if you would rather start there

Amazon lists Parfums de Marly Layton Eau de Parfum in 2.5 oz and in 6.7 oz , both sold by Amazon.com and new when we checked. Layton Exclusif is a different perfume and is not linked here. If you are also weighing another Parfums de Marly bottle, our Althaïr review covers sizes and the Exclusif versus original question for that line.

Before you buy any of them

  • Sample the original first. If you do not enjoy Layton itself, a cheaper interpretation will not fix that.
  • Name what you like. If it is the apple and lavender opening, check that the alternative has it; if it is the vanilla dry-down, the warmer options are closer.
  • Judge each alternative on its own. Buy it because you like wearing it, not because a roundup used the word “dupe.”
  • Compare the seller and the return terms. Opened fragrance is often final sale.

Our vanilla cologne guide and cologne note meanings guide explain the vanilla and aromatic families.

FAQ

Is any of these the same as Parfums de Marly Layton?

No. Each is a separate formula from a different maker, and none of the makers describes its perfume as a copy. The comparisons come from a retailer roundup that gives few sourced details, so treat them as opinion.

Which alternative does the roundup list first?

Al Haramain Detour Noir. The same roundup says it takes Layton in a warmer, darker direction and lacks the bright opening, so the ranking is not a sign it is the closest match.

What are the notes of Layton?

Scento lists green apple and lavender on top, a geranium heart and a vanilla base. Its FAQ adds bergamot, jasmine, violet, pepper and guaiac wood. The roundup is not fully consistent, so check the brand page for the list you rely on.

Is Layton the same as Layton Exclusif?

No. Layton Exclusif is a different perfume. Scento describes it two ways in the same article (saffron, oud and darker woods in one place, more orange blossom and less fresh apple in another), so check which one a roundup means before you compare.

Why is Orientica Royal Bleu a 7.5 ml mini?

The only Royal Bleu listing we could verify as new and in stock on Amazon was the 7.5 ml mini. It is useful for trying the scent, but it is not a full bottle.
